On a map redrawn by the rampant sea-level rise of the twenty-second century, survivors war over the ruins of high-ground whilst pirates and slavers plague the vast new seas that surround them.
But amidst the ashes of the world there remains a place for the young and the brave to call home: The Archon — a ship crewed by orphan thieves, escaped prisoners, and heretic runaways.
They are the Archonauts, and this is their tale.
A post-apocalyptic pirate adventure with the heart of an epic fantasy, Tales of the Risen Tide is the debut novel from British author David M Reynolds – available in print, and as a full-cast audiobook.
A lifelong storyteller, David grew up writing roleplaying adventures for his friends, before graduating to filmmaking in his late teens. After nearly 20 years of making film – everything from zombie action movies to underwater fantasy – David fell head over heels for the uncompromising & pure creative process that is novel writing. His foundation in visual storytelling remains a strong influence in his written work.
When he’s not writing, David loves to cultivate an eclectic set of interests and skills. Current obsessions include learning the Viola, boxing, sailing, and oil painting.
David lives with his eternally patient wife and young children in a sleepy village nestled between the wild woods of Dartmoor and the Devon coastline.
Top 5 books: Dune, The Lord of the Rings, The Grapes of Wrath, David Copperfield, The Winter King
Having spent two decades making film, David was very confident in the ability of a group of actors to elevate a piece of work by bringing their own craft to the table.
As such, the Tales of the Risen Tide audiobook was produced with a full cast of actors reading for the various character parts, accompanied by David’s own voice, which provided the narration. An original musical theme was composed by David’s long-time collaborator: Rob Westwood (Asgard’s Wrath, Lego Worlds), and the enormous task of assembling and mastering all the performances was undertaken by audio engineer Ben Pering.
The audiobook has been made available for free on a chapter-a-week basis on YouTube and the Tales of the Risen Tide podcast, and is also available in full on Audible and Spotify.
